Toor Dal is famous with several other names, such as Tuvar dal, Arhar dal, Split pigeon pea, Tovar dal, Tur dal, Thuvaram paruppu and Kandhi pappu.
Tur Dal is also known as Yellow Pigeon Peas, and it is high in protein and fibre. You can serve Tuhar Dal with Steamed Rice and Jeera Rice, even it goes very well with Vegetable Pulao too.

Toor Dal Recipe Step by Step
Following are the ingredients required for making Toor Dal Recipe. Toor Dal, Onion, Tomato, Green Chili, Curry Leaves, Ginger and Garlic.
Finely chop the Onion, Tomato, Green Chili, Ginger, Garlic and Coriander Leaves. Keep aside.
Boil dal by adding about 2 cups of water, few cloves of garlic, 1/2 tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp coriander powder and salt to taste. Mash the boiled dal with hand blender and keep aside.
Heat oil in big vessel or pan. Add 1 tsp mustard seeds and 1 tsp cumin seeds. Allow the seeds to pop up and then add 1 bay leaf and 1 whole dried red chili. Saute for a few seconds on low flame. Add finely chopped onion, chopped green chili, chopped garlic and chopped ginger. Cook it on low flame with continuous stirring and then add few curry leaves. Keep cooking for 2-3 minutes, till the onion gets little brown.
Add chopped tomato and mix well. Add 1/2 tsp red chili powder and 1/2 tsp coriander powder. Keep stirring for few minutes on low flame, till the mixture is nice and mushy.
Pour boiled dal and about 1 cup of water. Simmer the flame and season with salt to taste.
Cook for 2 more minutes.
